George Nelson hands for clocks that use a AA quartz battery movement only. If you are modifying an electric original, we can not provide support.

Hands are Pliable.
Most hands can be bent back into shape and do not need replacement. Please email any questions with photos. Hands are available for current Vitra models only.
Hands Shipped as Set Only.
Unless listed as included, red second hands are a separate purchase. Vitra sets pricing and ships hour and minute hands as a set. We can not ship minute hands only, but can remove a second hand if requested.

George Nelson replacement hands for clocks produced by Vitra. These hands WILL NOT fit original George Nelson electric models. They are compatible with battery operated quartz movements only. We will include a closed nut that holds the minute hand in place (or open nut if your model has a second hand).

Pre-Sale Questions

Is it difficult to replace the movement and/or hands?

If you are mechanically inclined, replacing the movement and/or hands is something you may be able to do yourself. If they are not tasks you can perform, it is a simple job for any reputable local clock repair shop (without the risks and expenses of shipping). Do your movements and hands come from Vitra?

We order movements directly from a German distributor so we can provide the specialty tool too. They are the same movements used in Vitra-produced George Nelson clocks. We order replacement hands directly from Vitra and can custom order what we do not have on hand. If it is important you order directly from Vitra, please order directly from Vitra.

How long do the movements last?

With the proper care, quartz clock movements can last 10-25 years.

Why don't you ship your movements with other parts?

Whether you need an end nut (and what color) or open nut depends on your clock. Most clocks that have stopped working only require a new movement. We'd rather send you the right items than guess or waste parts. You can consult our replacement guide to see what additional parts you may need.

Will replacing the movement devalue my clock?

No, you are purchasing the same movement. If you want to keep the original movement after you replace it, do so. It's neither cost-effective nor practical to try repairing the original quartz movement.

Do you test run your replacement movements?

No. It would add to your cost and has not been necessary.

The minute hand fell off my clock. What parts do I need?

You likely need an end nut or second hand; they hold the minute hand in place.

My hands are bent. Can I order new ones?

Minute and second hands (and some hour hands) are intentionally pliable. Try to straighten your hands first. We only recommend replacing if hands are severely damaged (by a fall or drop) or missing. Please be respectful of our very limited supply.
